DSWD 7's Home for Girls Helps Young Women in Cebu

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office (DSWD) 7 continues to provide protection, care, and rehabilitation to young women through the Home for Girls (HFG), a residential care facility serving victims and survivors of abuse, violence, and exploitation.

Home for Girls: A Safe Haven

Located at L.P. Balaga Drive, Labangon, Cebu City, the Home for Girls serves as a safe shelter for children in need of temporary protective custody and alternative family care while they heal and rebuild their lives.

First Quarter 2026 Statistics

In the first quarter of 2026, the facility assisted 45 clients. Of these, 33 were carry-over cases from the previous year, while 12 were newly admitted clients. During the first three months, 14 residents successfully completed their program and left the center, while 31 remained as of March. Currently, there are 32 clients residing in the center, with one additional admission in April.

Holistic Development Activities

The HFG quarter report highlights not only numbers but also the significant progress of each girl they help. Activities to enhance the holistic well-being of residents include participation in the Sinulog festivities in January, where they experienced joy and a sense of belonging in one of Cebu's grandest celebrations.

In February, the “Ms. Feb-ibig” pageant was held, an in-house activity allowing each resident to express their talent, personality, and personal story. In March, some clients experienced a spiritual milestone by participating in the Sacrament of Confession and receiving their First Communion.

Trauma-Informed Care Model

According to DSWD 7, the Home for Girls continues to use a trauma-informed and holistic model of care, recognizing that true healing comes not only from professional services but also through culture, faith, and community support.

The agency states that every activity and program of the center has one goal: to affirm the dignity of each girl and remind them that they are seen, valued, and not alone in their journey toward well-being and renewed hope.
