Man Arrested for Brandishing Gun in Toledo City

A man who habitually brandished his firearm and fired it was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Mandaue City Field Unit at 8:20 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, in Purok II, Kabangkalan, Barangay Daanglungsod, Toledo City.

The suspect was identified as Jerome Gabutas, 46, a resident of the area. Authorities seized a .22 caliber revolver with five bullets and a .45 caliber pistol with six bullets in its magazine.

The CIDG-Mandaue City Field Unit received complaints that a man in the area frequently displayed his firearm and, when intoxicated, would fire it, causing fear among residents.

Following the complaint, surveillance was conducted on Gabutas, confirming that he was carrying his firearm.

The CIDG 7 then applied for a search warrant, which was approved by Honorable Judge Jeffrey James Ocang, Vice Executive Judge of the Regional Trial Court in Toledo City, dated June 5, 2026, for violation of Section 3 in relation to Section 28 of Republic Act 10591.

The CIDG-Mandaue City Field Unit, together with the Toledo City Police Station, executed the court order under Oplan Paglalansag Omega, the flagship program of the CIDG, resulting in the successful seizure of the evidence.
