A barangay tanod in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, has decided to file a formal complaint after being punched in the face while attempting to intervene in a disturbance at a club along Salinas Drive early Sunday morning, June 7, 2026.
The incident occurred around 12:56 pm when the tanod responded to an alarm about a commotion involving intoxicated customers at an establishment. Upon arrival, the tanod was struck by a fist belonging to a suspect identified as Roel, 28, a resident of Lapu-Lapu City who lives with a partner.
According to the investigation, the tanod and other Lahug personnel responded to the disturbance. As they tried to calm the situation, Roel's fist landed on the tanod's face, prompting his arrest and transfer to the Mabolo Police Station.
The suspect explained that he did not intend to hit the tanod. He claimed he was aiming for another man he wanted to pull away but accidentally struck the victim instead. Roel stated that he and three companions were at the club but had a heated argument with the bouncers. He admitted that they were already drunk at the time and that he was merely trying to defend his cousin, who had been punched by another young man.
However, when he attempted to assist his cousin, the tanod suddenly arrived and intervened, resulting in the unintended punch.
