Mandaue Traffic Enforcers Suspended for Violating Rules They Enforce
Mandaue Traffic Enforcers Suspended for Rule Violations

The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) has suspended two traffic enforcers without pay after videos showing them violating traffic rules circulated on social media. The agency acted swiftly to impose disciplinary measures and renew its commitment to accountability.

Violations Caught on Video

One incident showed an enforcer passing through a no-right-turn area by driving through a gutter. Another video captured an officer hanging onto the outside of a jeepney while in uniform. Both personnel admitted their actions before Team's legal office, according to Hyll Retuya.

Disciplinary Actions

Retuya confirmed that Team does not rely on hearsay and ensures due process before imposing penalties. The enforcer clinging to the jeepney received a one-day suspension without pay. Retuya explained that the officer had completed his duty and gave up his seat to a female passenger, but the agency still pursued disciplinary action. Retuya noted that Team has handled more or less 20 cases of personnel offenses, with sanctions depending on the gravity of the offense.

Call for Professionalism

Retuya emphasized that traffic enforcers must serve as role models. “We are the ones implementing the law, so we should not be the first to violate the very laws we enforce,” he said. He warned that any violation would lead to consequences based on the offense's severity.

Training and Orientation

Team regularly conducts lectures and orientations for field personnel. Another round of training is scheduled for June to strengthen discipline, professionalism, and accountability within the agency. Retuya stressed that enforcers must uphold the laws they are tasked to implement.
