It is now questioned whether the Cavaliers have enough strength to recover after surviving consecutive Game 7 series — first against the Atlanta Hawks in the first round, then against the top-seeded Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
After their battles with the Hawks and Pistons, the Knicks immediately hit them with two straight losses at Madison Square Garden. Game 1 saw the Knicks pull away in overtime, 115-104, while Game 2 had New York leading by double digits, 109-93.
To bounce back, the Cavs need solid performances from combo guards Donovan Mitchell and James Harden. Support from big men Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, as well as the bench including Dennis Schroder, is also crucial.
In franchise history, the Cavaliers have reached the Eastern Finals eight times. This is their first appearance since LeBron James left Cleveland.

Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson revealed that their defense focused on Brunson, but it backfired as they failed to stop his effective assists.
"Obviously we're loaded up more to him, and he found other guys," Atkinson said of Brunson. "We just got to find that balance, but 14 assists, credit to him, right? Took away some of the scoring options, blitzed him, gave him different looks."
Meanwhile, Mitchell stated that they need to review film to make adjustments for Game 3 and avoid falling into a 0-3 hole.
