In a significant move to strengthen technical education and renewable energy skills among students, Visayan Electric, in partnership with Vivant Foundation, has officially turned over a newly retrofitted Electrical Installation and Maintenance Laboratory at Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
Expanding Project Liadlaw for Enhanced Learning
This initiative forms a major part of Vivant Foundation's Project Liadlaw, an EIM assistance program originally designed to provide solar equipment to schools in off-grid and remote areas. This year, the project's scope has been expanded through collaborations with Visayan Electric, the Department of Education, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
Upgraded Curriculum with Solar Technology Focus
Beyond the provision of equipment, the partnership has introduced an upgraded EIM curriculum that directly incorporates solar technology. The aim is to equip students with deeper, practical knowledge in the use and maintenance of solar energy systems.
Through the EIM-Solar curriculum, students will learn to manage basic maintenance and repairs of solar installations at their school under the guidance of their teachers. This provides real-world, hands-on experience that aids in their preparation for future employment, particularly in the growing renewable energy sector.
Emphasis on Practical Skills for Job Readiness
During the turnover ceremony held on February 2, 2026, Visayan Electric OIC-President and General Manager Mark Kindica highlighted the importance of practical facilities in modern education.
"We believe that education is the foundation of community development. By upgrading the EIM track with solar technology, we aren't just giving students a diploma; we are giving them a competitive advantage in today's job market," stated Kindica.
Additional Equipment and Long-Term Benefits
In addition to the renovated laboratory, the school received specialized EIM and solar equipment for use in teaching and practical training sessions.
According to the partner organizations, this project demonstrates the ongoing efforts of the private and public sectors to improve the quality of education and provide better career opportunities for Cebuano students.
