The Zonta Club of Cebu 1 has always infused its leadership turnover ceremonies with thematic significance tied to national and international connections. This year was no exception as the club formally marked the transition from outgoing President Melita Go to incoming President Stella Bernabe, who will serve her second term.
A Longstanding Commitment to Service
Reflecting on her journey, a long-time member shared how she joined the Zonta Club of Cebu 1 in the 1980s at the invitation of colleagues Anita Sanchez and Amparo Rodil. They believed her international travel insights would benefit the club. Through her membership, she gained deeper understanding of communities in need, particularly in education, healthcare, and leadership development.
Sustainable fundraising projects became a priority, leading to the establishment of a daycare center, a chapel, and sewing and cooking classes, among other initiatives.
Notable Leadership and Projects
The club has seen fruitful leadership under presidents Anita Sanchez, Amparo Rodil, Merle Cunanan, Flor Streegan, Inday Avila, Minnie Yuvienco, Stella Bernabe, Rufina Tanchan, Tess Chan, Amelita Go, and others. Major projects directed by members included Glamour and Glitz 1 and 2, Night at the Oscars, and various fashion shows, all supported by the full force of Zontians and their networks.
The club's Hall of Fame stands proudly alongside those of other Zonta clubs worldwide. In the academe, partnerships were forged with institutions such as the University of San Jose–Recoletos, University of the Visayas, Cebu Normal University, and the University of San Carlos.
Congratulations to the newly installed officers of the Zonta Club of Cebu 1!
