Two individuals in the municipalities of Pinamungajan and Barili in Cebu province have reported breathing difficulties due to ashfall from the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano, according to health officials.
Dr. Sheila Faciol, head of the Cebu Provincial Health Office (CPHO), stated on July 10, 2026, that the victims likely had pre-existing conditions that were triggered by inhaling volcanic ash.
“They are possibly asthmatic and the ashfall triggered their condition, but it was managed at the Out-patient Department (OPD),” Faciol explained.
Authorities Issue Health Advisory
In response, authorities strongly advised students and young people, especially those living near affected areas, to stay indoors. Outdoor activities such as basketball, volleyball, and other sports have been temporarily banned to avoid health risks.
Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that air quality had improved to “fair” by Friday. However, the government reminded the public not to be complacent, as volcanic dust may still be carried by the wind.
