Typhoon Francisco Intensifies, Threatens Philippines

Typhoon Francisco has intensified as it moves west-northwest over the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Monday, June 22, 2026. The weather bureau warned of possible strong winds, large waves, and heavy rainfall in several parts of the country.

Current Status and Path

In its 11 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, Pagasa said Francisco was located 620 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. The typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 190 kph. It is moving west-northwest at 15 kph.

Areas Affected

The southwest monsoon (habagat) and the outer circulation of Francisco are expected to bring gusty winds to many areas, including the Visayas, parts of Luzon, and Mindanao. Pagasa advised fishermen and sea travelers to avoid sailing in areas where waves could reach up to 3.5 meters, particularly off the eastern coast of Babuyan Islands and mainland Cagayan.
