Caritas Philippines Prepares for Super Typhoon Uwan

Church Humanitarian Arm Activates Disaster Response Network

The humanitarian organization of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines announced on Sunday, November 9, 2025, that it is closely watching archdioceses and dioceses in the projected path of Super Typhoon Uwan.

Through a social media announcement, Caritas Philippines revealed it is actively coordinating with all diocesan Social Action Centers to prepare for potential response operations as the powerful storm approaches the country.

Safety Measures and Community Preparedness

The Catholic organization urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and follow guidance from local authorities. "Let us remain alert, prepared, and follow the advisories of local government authorities," Caritas Philippines emphasized in their statement.

The group provided specific recommendations for families and communities:

  • Heed advisories and instructions from local government units, particularly regarding preemptive evacuations
  • Stay alert for early warning signs or signals
  • Prepare emergency kits containing essential supplies
  • Secure homes against potential damage
  • Safeguard important documents from possible destruction

Parish-Level Preparations Underway

Caritas Philippines also directed all parishes to implement practical measures in anticipation of the typhoon's impact. These instructions included:

Religious institutions were advised to keep electronic devices and batteries fully charged, preposition relief goods and supplies where feasible, and ensure the availability of critical lifelines including water, electricity, communication systems, and access routes.

"In this time of uncertainty, may our faith, compassion, and readiness guide us as we pray for the protection of everyone in the path of the typhoon," the organization stated, combining spiritual encouragement with practical action.

The preparations come as several regions across the Philippines began experiencing torrential rains and strong winds on Sunday, signaling the approach of the intensifying weather system.
