DOH Aids 9,500 Families After Typhoon Uwan

The Department of Health has maintained continuous medical operations to support thousands of families displaced by Typhoon Uwan across Central Luzon region.

Approximately 9,500 families are currently staying in various evacuation centers after the typhoon's destructive winds and heavy rainfall forced them from their homes.

Government Mobilizes Health Response Teams

Under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa has deployed medical teams to monitor the health conditions of evacuees around the clock. The health department announced this initiative through a Facebook post on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Proactive measures included the distribution of PHP6.7 million worth of medicines and health supplies even before Typhoon Uwan made landfall in Aurora on Sunday night.

Comprehensive Medical Support for Evacuees

The DOH has provided extensive medical assistance to affected communities, including:

  • Medicines for dizziness, stomach pain, and cough distributed to 35,710 individuals
  • First aid kits and free medical consultations
  • Standby doctors ready to prescribe and distribute antibiotics
  • Hygiene kits and water containers with safe drinking water

A significant preventive measure involved preparing 45,300 tablets of doxycycline to protect against leptospirosis, particularly important for evacuees who had contact with floodwaters.

Ongoing Operations Despite Challenges

Despite experiencing power outages in affected areas, the DOH has continued conducting health assessments and monitoring in evacuation centers. The department remains committed to providing essential medical services and commodities until all displaced families can safely return to their homes.

The health agency assured the public that their medical response teams will maintain their presence in evacuation centers throughout the recovery period.
