Morning Fire Ravages Lapu-Lapu City Neighborhood

A destructive fire swept through Sitio Kagudoy in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City on Friday morning, November 7, 2025, completely destroying eight homes and affecting dozens of residents. The blaze, which rapidly spread through single and two-story houses, impacted 42 individuals from 11 different families, according to official reports.

Rapid Fire Response and Containment

The Lapu-Lapu City Fire District received the emergency call at 8:55 AM, with the first alarm raised just one minute later. Firefighters quickly mobilized and arrived at the scene by 9:00 AM to confront the growing inferno.

Fire Officer 3 Jopet B. Obiña reported that authorities escalated the alarm to second level at 9:05 AM as the fire continued to spread. Through the coordinated efforts of responding firefighters, the situation was declared under control by 9:23 AM, with the fire completely extinguished just four minutes later at 9:27 AM.

Resident Accounts and Narrow Escape

Norman Abordonado, one of the affected residents, shared his harrowing experience with SunStar Cebu. His home was located near the suspected origin point of the fire, putting his family in immediate danger.

As a father to a one-year-old child, Abordonado recalled hearing neighbors shouting as the flames rapidly spread through the community. This prompted him to prioritize his child's safety before attempting to salvage any remaining belongings from their home.

In a tragic twist of fate, Abordonado noted that while their area had been spared from the recent Typhoon Tino, he never anticipated losing their home to a fire. The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly disaster can strike, even when other threats have passed.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, though multiple families now face the challenge of rebuilding their lives after losing their homes and possessions in the blaze.
