The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has implemented contingency measures in preparation for the possible escalation of Mayon Volcano's activity in Albay. According to OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo, necessary resources have been prepositioned and plans for coordination with local government units (LGUs) are in place, especially regarding the possible expansion of evacuation in permanent danger zones.
Coordination and Preparedness
Castillo added that the OCD continues to coordinate with other government agencies to ensure immediate response should the situation worsen. However, the OCD stated that PHIVOLCS currently sees no need to raise the volcano's alert level.
Recent Activity
It can be recalled that Mayon Volcano emitted thick ash in recent days, affecting several communities, while authorities remain on alert for a possible sudden eruption.
