Police Mobilize Massive Force for Typhoon Uwan Aftermath

Acting Philippine National Police chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has committed full police support for communities devastated by Typhoon Uwan, ensuring peace and security in evacuation centers and affected areas. The announcement came on Monday, November 10, 2025, as the typhoon continued to wreak havoc across multiple regions.

Nartatez emphasized that the PNP will provide continuous assistance to displaced residents returning to their communities and those remaining in evacuation centers. Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas were the first to experience Uwan's destructive force, suffering from widespread flooding and significant damage to homes, establishments, and infrastructure.

Widespread Destruction Across Luzon

Initial assessment reports indicate that Typhoon Uwan left a trail of destruction, particularly in the Bicol Region. After battering Southern Luzon, the storm moved toward Northern Luzon, causing additional massive flooding and landslides that isolated several municipalities.

The Office of Civil Defense reported that the Aurora province municipalities of Casiguran, Dipaculao, Dinalungan, and Dilasag were completely isolated due to landslides during the height of Uwan's onslaught. Road clearing operations have become a top priority to ensure the smooth delivery of relief goods and equipment to severely affected areas.

"Based on the initial assessment reports, this typhoon left a train of destruction, particularly in the Bicol Region. As some of our affected kababayan start to go back to their communities, the Philippine National Police, along with other government agencies, will be there to provide all the necessary assistance," Nartatez stated.

Massive Police Deployment for Disaster Response

The PNP has mobilized substantial resources to address the emergency, deploying 21,682 police personnel and 1,566 police vehicles across areas along Uwan's track. This massive deployment includes 16,628 members of the Reactionary Standby Support Force, specifically trained for emergency situations.

With weather experts warning that Uwan will continue to bring heavy rains in the coming days, Nartatez assured that police forces will remain on high alert. All PNP field units in Luzon and Visayas have been instructed to maintain vigilance to ensure evacuation and rescue operations are conducted safely and efficiently.

"Policemen are among the symbols of the government, and police visibility is crucial in easing fears and panic among the people, whether in communities or evacuation centers," Nartatez explained. "In this time of serious challenge, our kababayan feel safe whenever they see men in uniform, knowing that their safety and protection are assured."

The PNP chief also emphasized the need for police commanders to actively monitor their respective areas to help oversee disaster response and emergency operations, ensuring coordinated efforts with other government agencies during this critical period.
