A 64-year-old woman tragically lost her life early Sunday morning after her house was destroyed by the powerful winds of Super Typhoon Uwan in Catbalogan City, Samar.
Victim Trapped During Retrieval Attempt
The victim, identified only as Faye, was a resident of Seaside Pier 2 in Barangay 3. According to authorities, she had returned to her home, which was constructed from light materials, between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Her purpose was to retrieve her chickens from the vulnerable structure.
Tragically, the house suddenly collapsed under the battering of the typhoon's fierce winds, trapping her inside. Her body was discovered around 4 a.m. that same morning.
Multi-Agency Response and Aftermath
A coordinated retrieval operation was swiftly conducted by personnel from the Catbalogan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Philippine Coast Guard.
Following the operation, Faye's remains were transported to the Samar Memorial Chapel. Authorities have requested a post-mortem examination at the Catbalogan City Health Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Widespread Evacuations in Catbalogan
The impact of Super Typhoon Uwan extended far beyond this single incident. The Catbalogan CDRRMO reported that the severe weather event prompted the evacuation of more than 700 residents across the city as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.
This tragic event highlights the extreme dangers that typhoons pose, especially to those living in informal settlements and light-material housing.
