Bacolod to Host 2026 Batang Pinoy National Championships

The Bacolod City Government and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) have formalized a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the city's hosting of the 2026 Batang Pinoy National Championships, scheduled from December 12 to 18, 2026.

Signing Ceremony

Mayor Greg Gasataya and PSC Chairman John Patrick Gregorio led the signing of the agreement at the Bacolod City Government Center on May 9. Gasataya expressed gratitude to the PSC for once again selecting Bacolod as the host city for the national youth competition.

Historical Context

Bacolod City previously hosted the inaugural Batang Pinoy Games in 1999, as well as subsequent editions in 2001 and 2014. The city's continued selection underscores its reputation as a premier sports destination in the Philippines.

Commitment to Athlete Development

Mayor Gasataya emphasized the city's commitment to producing future Olympians. "The only thing we wanted to happen is for Bacolod City to produce the next Olympian. That is why we are giving our full commitment and doing everything we can to support our athletes," he stated.

Regional Training Hub

Beyond hosting rights, the PSC is exploring the establishment of a regional training hub for archery and baseball in Bacolod, citing the abundance of promising local talent in both sports.

Economic and Tourism Impact

Chairman Gregorio lauded the city's intensified sports tourism initiatives and its rising status as a sports destination. He noted that continued investment in grassroots sports development and infrastructure significantly contributes to tourism growth and economic activity.

Food Culture and Hospitality

Gregorio highlighted Bacolod's renowned food culture and hospitality as key factors that make it an ideal venue for major sporting events. He also emphasized the economic benefits of sports tourism, as athletes often travel with family and supporters, boosting local businesses.

Event Details

At least 15,000 delegates are expected to participate in the national youth sports competition, which will feature student-athletes aged 8 to 15 from across the country.

Bacolod is currently hosting the National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) competition and will host the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup Seaba Qualifiers 2026 from June 2 to 6.
