Cebu Gov. Baricuatro Pledges Sustainable Development at Summit

Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro opened the Asean-EU Sustainability Summit 2026 on Thursday, May 7, with a strong pledge to prioritize sustainable and inclusive development for the province. Addressing delegates from the Asean-EU Business Council, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, and regional business leaders, Baricuatro outlined key initiatives aimed at positioning Cebu as a future-ready province anchored on sustainability, resilience, and inclusive growth.

Key Priorities Announced

Baricuatro emphasized that the Provincial Government will strengthen climate-resilient infrastructure, improve water and flood management systems, pursue sustainable energy solutions, and advance responsible waste management initiatives. She also called for increased investments in food security, healthcare, transparency, and digital governance to empower local communities.

Collaboration for Meaningful Development

“As Governor, one of my priorities is to ensure that development in Cebu is not only fast, but meaningful and long-term,” Baricuatro said. She stressed that sustainability goes beyond environmental protection, adding, “It is also about building communities that are prepared, empowered, and trusted by the people they serve.”

The governor underscored the importance of collaboration among governments, businesses, innovators, and development partners to build strong and responsible economies. “This is why partnerships matter,” she said, noting that platforms like the summit foster meaningful discussions and practical solutions for the region.

Summit Goals and Regional Impact

“May this Summit lead to meaningful discussions, stronger collaborations, and real solutions that will benefit not only Cebu, but the entire region,” Baricuatro stated. The inaugural event gathered Asean and European stakeholders to discuss sustainability initiatives, economic cooperation, and climate resilience ahead of the 48th Asean Leaders’ Summit.
