An infectious disease expert said on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, that there is no cause for concern over the recent increase in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Quezon City, noting that all cases are mild.
During a televised public briefing, Dr. Rontgene Solante reassured the public that the uptick should not cause alarm, as current cases are not severe like those seen earlier in the pandemic.
Mild Illness and Quick Recovery
“This is not something to be concerned about because in most Covid-19 cases these days, the illness lasts only about three or four days — involving a runny nose and a cough — and they are already able to recover,” Solante said.
He emphasized that no patients are being hospitalized or dying from the virus, and the number of people requiring hospitalization due to severe illness is not increasing.
Normal Seasonal Pattern
Solante explained that the rise in cases is typical during the flu season, which coincides with the rainy months. “The recent rise in reported Covid-19 cases in Quezon City involves the kind of cases we typically encounter, especially during the rainy season, which also marks the onset of seasonal influenza,” he said.
He added that these cases fall under the category of respiratory viral infections, not just Covid-19. “Such an increase is certainly expected during the months of July, August, and September, even extending through December,” Solante noted.
Case Numbers in Quezon City
Earlier, the Quezon City Government reported an increase in confirmed Covid-19 cases over the past three weeks. The local government unit recorded 84 confirmed cases from June 11 to July 1, compared to 23 cases from May 21 to June 10.
