UAAP Launches Inaugural Golf Tournament with Three-Year Partnership
UAAP Inaugural Golf Tournament Set for May 11

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has officially launched its inaugural golf tournament, set to take place at the Tagaytay Midlands course in Talisay, Batangas from May 11 to 14. This marks a historic expansion for the premier collegiate league, which signed a three-year partnership with Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. (PGTI) on April 20, 2026.

Five Teams Vie for First Title

De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines (UP), University of Santo Tomas, and Adamson University will compete for the distinction of becoming the league's first golf champion. The tournament promises to shape the next generation of Filipino golf superstars.

Format and Course

Teams will compete in a 72-hole aggregate gross stroke play format, with four rounds of 18 holes each. Each squad fields three to four players per round from a roster of four to six, with the best three scores counting toward the team total. Only players completing all four rounds qualify for individual honors, emphasizing consistency and endurance.

The wind-swept Tagaytay Midlands course provides a demanding test, requiring resilience and strategic discipline. Several teams, including La Salle, Ateneo, and UP, gained valuable experience at last year's ICTSI Intercollegiate Tour (IIT), giving them a competitive edge.

Partnership for Development

The collaboration with PGTI, organizers of the Philippine Golf Tour, Ladies PGT, and Junior PGT, strengthens the tournament's credibility. UAAP Season 88 executive director Rebo Saguisag highlighted the multi-year commitment, saying, "We're very excited and happy that the PGTI partnership is a multi-year commitment – it's not just a one-time arrangement."

PGTI general manager Colo Ventosa expressed optimism, noting the success of the IIT last year. "The IIT was a big success last year, and we're looking forward to replicating that success in the UAAP golf tournament," Ventosa said.

Season 88 president Fr. Rodel Cansancio called the event a breakthrough for Philippine sports. "This is a historic milestone. Never in the history of the UAAP have we had a golf tournament. This is good, not only for the UAAP but for the country, as it helps develop the sport and produce world-class golfers," Fr. Cansancio said.
