Filipino Theresians Hold Annual Retreat in California

In a heartwarming display of sisterhood and faith, Filipino Theresians—graduates of St. Theresa's College (STC) from Manila, Quezon City, and Cebu—recently convened for their annual Recollection, known affectionately as the One-STC Retreat and Recollection. Many of these alumnae now reside in California, making this event a cherished reunion that bridges their Philippine roots with their current lives abroad.

A Gathering of Camaraderie and Devotion

The event, held at the Incarnation Church in Glendale, California, brought together a vibrant community of women who share a common educational background and spiritual values. Among the attendees were notable figures such as Maritel Delmar-Baton, Marnie Marigomen, Teresa Martinez-Sepulveda, and Agnes Ybanez-Bisgaard from Cebu, alongside others like Connie Climaco-Kingsley and Rosalie Ceballos, showcasing the diverse yet united spirit of Theresians.

Spiritual Leadership and Inspiration

Guiding the retreat was Rev. Fr. Raymond Vicente Ma. Decipeda, MMHC, pastor of St. John of God Catholic Church in Norwalk, California. Now in his second year with the One-STC Retreat and Recollection, Fr. Decipeda, who holds advanced degrees in Theology, Philosophy, and Accounting, delivered dynamic preaching and talks on leadership through faith, inspiring the participants with his profound insights.

His sessions were complemented by special rituals, including the celebration of Holy Mass and the presence of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima, which he brought for the rites. Additionally, relics of St. Teresa of Avila, the patroness of Theresians, were displayed, adding a layer of historical and spiritual significance to the gathering.

Steering Committee and Community Support

The success of the event was largely due to the dedicated steering committee, which included active members such as Lucille Ocampo-Dypiangco, Lourdes R. Lara, and Vivian Zapanta-Lahoz. Their efforts ensured a seamless and meaningful experience for all attendees.

Special recognition was given to Cebuana Theresian Maribel Kokseng-Kratz for her tireless support, highlighting the collaborative spirit that defines this community. The event also saw the participation of supportive husbands, including Jojo Lahoz, Lorenz Legazpi, and Jun Balauag, who are ever-present at these gatherings, underscoring the family-oriented nature of the Theresian network.

Legacy and Future Anticipation

The retreat not only fostered spiritual growth but also celebrated legacy, as seen in moments like the presence of Josefa "Pepa" Verallo-Esparrago and her daughter Eileen Esparrago. With friendships rekindled and faith deepened, the community now eagerly looks forward to the 2026 One-STC Retreat and Recollection, anticipating another year of inspiration and unity.
