Over 1,200 Trafficked OFWs Repatriated from Cambodia Since 2022, DMW Reports
1,200+ Trafficked OFWs Repatriated from Cambodia Since 2022

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has successfully repatriated a cumulative total of 1,200 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who fell victim to human trafficking and were recruited into illegal scam operations in Cambodia. This significant figure was achieved as of March 13, 2026, according to an official statement released by the DMW.

Recent Arrival of 53 Trafficking Victims

On Friday morning, an additional 53 OFWs arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 via Philippine Airlines flight PR 2622 from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The DMW confirmed in their announcement that all individuals, identified as human trafficking victims (HTVs), landed safely. Among them, two required immediate medical attention upon arrival.

Comprehensive Support Services Provided

Upon their return, the repatriated OFWs were promptly provided with a range of essential services to aid in their recovery and reintegration. These include accommodation assistance, psychosocial counseling, reintegration support, and transportation services. The DMW emphasized that the two victims in need of medical care have already received medication and will be referred to nearby Department of Health (DOH) hospitals for free treatment.

Deceptive Recruitment Tactics Exposed

The victims were lured to Cambodia through deceptive promises made via the messaging app Telegram. Recruiters falsely offered salaries ranging from US$600 to US$1,000 along with valid working visas, exploiting the OFWs' aspirations for better employment opportunities abroad.

This repatriation effort highlights the ongoing challenges faced by migrant workers and underscores the DMW's commitment to combating human trafficking and supporting affected individuals. The department continues to monitor and address such cases to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipino workers overseas.
