The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong has confirmed that all Filipino citizens affected by the massive and deadly fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po have been successfully accounted for. The tragic incident, which occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, resulted in over 150 fatalities, including one Filipino domestic helper.
Consulate Confirms Status of All Affected Nationals
In an official statement released on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Consulate General provided crucial updates on the welfare of the Filipino community involved. All 92 Filipino citizens connected to the residential complex have been located. While this brings a measure of relief, the Consulate reported that one Filipino national sustained injuries and is currently receiving further treatment in a hospital.
The Consulate had previously confirmed the heartbreaking news that a Filipino worker was among those who lost their lives in the blaze. "All Filipinos who likely worked at the Wang Fuk Court residential complex are accounted for," the Consulate's statement assured the public, aiming to alleviate concerns among families in the Philippines.
Financial Assistance and Support for Victims
During a press conference, Hong Kong's Labour and Welfare Secretary, Chris Sun, outlined the compensation package for the victims. The family of the deceased Filipina domestic helper will receive approximately HK$800,000, which is over 6 million Philippine pesos.
Furthermore, individuals injured in the fire will also be eligible for financial aid. The assistance amounts to either HK$50,000 or HK$100,000, with the final sum depending on the duration of their required hospital stay.
Recognizing the practical difficulties faced by survivors, the Philippine Consulate General has pledged direct support. They have assured affected Filipinos that they will provide assistance free of charge for the replacement of lost Hong Kong IDs and other essential documents that were destroyed in the fire.
Investigation and Arrests Following the Tragedy
The fire, which also claimed the life of a firefighter, stands as one of Hong Kong's deadliest in recent years. In the wake of the disaster, local authorities have launched a thorough investigation. Hong Kong officials announced the arrest of 11 individuals in connection with the incident.
Among those detained are the two directors of Will Power Architects Company, the consultancy firm that was overseeing the renovation project at the Wang Fuk Court residential complex at the time of the fire. The arrests highlight the serious nature of the probe into the causes of this catastrophic event.
The Philippine government, through its Consulate in Hong Kong, continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that the rights and welfare of the affected Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are protected during the ongoing investigation and recovery process.
