In a significant move to bolster support for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, the Cebu Provincial Government and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) 7 have reinforced their coordination efforts. This initiative comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, aiming to ensure swift aid delivery and enhance the welfare of affected individuals.
Enhanced Crisis Response and Support Mechanisms
On March 17, Governor Pamela Baricuatro met with DMW 7 Director Jhoaden Lucero to discuss critical measures for improving emergency response. A key focus was the establishment of a robust Crisis Response Mechanism, designed to address overseas emergencies promptly and efficiently. This system is intended to streamline assistance processes, reducing delays in critical situations.
Streamlined Assistance Programs
The collaboration includes the implementation of the One Window Bayanihan Assistance Program, a unified system that simplifies government aid requests for OFWs and their families. By consolidating services, this program aims to make support more accessible and faster, ensuring that those in need can receive help without bureaucratic hurdles.
Strengthened Coordination for Employment and Monitoring
Additionally, the partnership will enhance coordination between the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Cebu People’s Action Center (CPAC). This effort focuses on monitoring recruitment concerns and providing livelihood opportunities for returning OFWs. The goal is to facilitate their reintegration into the local economy, offering job placements and entrepreneurial support to mitigate the impact of overseas disruptions.
Governor Baricuatro emphasized that these measures are part of a broader strategy to bring government services closer to OFWs, often hailed as modern-day heroes, and their families affected by the Middle East turmoil. By strengthening these collaborative frameworks, the authorities aim to not only address immediate crises but also build long-term resilience for migrant workers from Cebu.
