The Philippine Army has reinforced its presence in Basilan province with the deployment of a specialized reconnaissance unit, aiming to bolster peace and security, particularly during the holiday period.
Reconnaissance Troops Return to Basilan
On Saturday, December 20, 2025, the 112th Division Reconnaissance Company (112DRC) arrived at the port of Lamitan City in Basilan. The troops were formally welcomed by Brigadier General Frederick Sales, the commander of the 1101st Infantry Brigade.
General Sales stated that the unit's deployment marks a return to a familiar area, as the 112DRC had been previously assigned to Basilan. Their mission is to serve as a relief in place and to provide support for the ongoing security operations conducted by military forces in the province.
Enhancing Stability for the Holidays and Beyond
The military emphasized that the arrival of the reconnaissance company is a strategic move to enhance stability. "Their presence will further strengthen the Brigade's efforts to ensure peace and security in Basilan, particularly during the holiday season and in support of long-term stability and development in the province," Sales added.
The welcoming ceremony at the port was also attended by Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Caro, commander of the 18th Infantry Battalion, along with other officers and personnel from the brigade.
Unit Rotation for Enhanced Capability
This deployment is part of a regular rotation and training cycle for the Army's reconnaissance forces. The 112DRC replaces the 111th Division Reconnaissance Company (111DRC), which was pulled out from Basilan on December 16 to undergo retraining.
The retraining program for the 111DRC is designed to enhance the unit's operational readiness, tactical proficiency, and reconnaissance capabilities. Having been stationed in Basilan for over two years, the 111DRC played a significant role in supporting local security operations and peace-building initiatives in the area.
The deployment, ordered by the 11th Infantry Division, underscores the military's continuous commitment to maintaining a secure environment in Basilan, facilitating both immediate safety for residents during festivities and the conditions necessary for sustained development.
