The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is in mourning after one of its personnel suddenly died following a checkpoint operation early Monday morning on M.J. Cuenco Avenue in Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City. The flag at the CCPO camp was lowered to half-mast as a sign of grief.
Victim Identified as Patrolman Christian Jay Palon
The deceased was identified as Patrolman Christian Jay Palon, 28, a member of the Parian Police Station 1 under the CCPO. He was a native of Siaton, Negros Oriental.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rodulf Oriol, CCPO deputy city director for administration, personnel from the Parian Police Station were conducting a motor stop operation. During a rest break back at the station, Palon sat on a bench and complained of chest pain. He then began having difficulty breathing, prompting his colleagues to give him water. However, he suddenly lost consciousness, and fellow officers immediately rendered assistance.
Rushed to Hospital, Declared Dead on Arrival
Palon was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) but was declared dead on arrival (DOA). Authorities suspect he suffered a heart attack, which caused his sudden death.
Oriol further revealed that Palon had been complaining of chest pain and persistent fatigue for the past three days—symptoms that could indicate a serious heart condition.
CCPO Expresses Condolences, Offers Assistance
The CCPO extended its condolences to Palon's family, describing him as a kind, loyal, and dedicated police officer. The office pledged to assist his family, particularly with the financial needs of his loved ones left behind. The Cebu City Government has already provided initial financial aid, which was received by Palon's father, who is currently in the city to bring the body back to Siaton.
Oriol emphasized that the CCPO constantly reminds its personnel to take care of their health through proper diet and regular exercise to remain physically fit for their duties.
