Ex-Fisherman Arrested in Dalaguete Drug Bust After Returning to Illegal Trade

In a recent police operation in Dalaguete, Cebu, a 30-year-old man, previously convicted for drug offenses, was apprehended for allegedly resuming illegal drug activities. The suspect, identified by the alias Boknoy, was captured during a buy-bust operation conducted on the evening of Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Barangay Banhigan, Dalaguete City.

Repeat Offender with a History of Drug Cases

According to Major Vincent Zozobrado, chief of the Dalaguete Police Station, this arrest marks the second time Boknoy has been caught for drug-related crimes. His first case, involving illegal drugs, was resolved through a plea bargaining agreement, which allowed him to avoid a harsher sentence. However, instead of reforming, he reportedly returned to selling shabu, a dangerous substance.

Boknoy, described as single and a resident of the area, confessed to authorities that he abandoned his previous livelihood as a fisherman due to exhaustion. He opted for what he perceived as a quicker way to earn money by engaging in the illicit drug trade.

Details of the Police Operation and Seized Evidence

The buy-bust operation was carried out at approximately 11:30 PM, leading to the recovery of significant evidence from the suspect. Police confiscated one medium-sized pack of shabu, five smaller packages of the same substance, and P500 in buy-bust money used during the sting. The total weight of the seized drugs was measured at 1.10 grams, with an estimated street value of P7,480.00.

As a result of this arrest, Boknoy now faces charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law imposes strict penalties for drug-related offenses, and given his prior conviction, he may encounter more severe legal consequences this time.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in combating drug abuse and recidivism in local communities, underscoring the need for sustained enforcement and rehabilitation efforts.
