Negros Island Police Officers Receive High Honors for Law Enforcement Achievements
The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has formally recognized two police officials and two non-commissioned officers for their outstanding contributions to public safety. The awards were presented for significant accomplishments in anti-illegal drug operations and the successful apprehension of a wanted person across the Negros Island Region.
Ceremony Details and Leadership Presence
The recognition ceremony took place on February 23, 2026, at the PRO-NIR building located within Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr. in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City. Police Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, the regional director of PRO-NIR, led the event alongside the Command Group, regional staff, and other personnel, underscoring the importance of the achievements.
Award Recipients and Their Specific Accomplishments
Medalya ng Kadakilaan recipients included:
- Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Benitez Jr. and Corporal Arnel Legaspi from the Bacolod City Police Office Drug Enforcement Unit.
- Lieutenant Shella May Edon and Staff Sergeant Julius Medel Tampus from the Siquijor Police Provincial Office Intelligence Unit.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, chief of the PRO-NIR Public Information Office, Benitez and Legaspi were honored for their role in a buy-bust operation conducted on January 12, 2026, in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City. This operation resulted in the arrest of two drug personalities and the seizure of 144.091 grams of shabu, with an estimated market value of P7,779,818.80.
Edon and Tampus received their awards for a manhunt operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City on January 23, 2026. Their efforts led to the arrest of a national most wanted person who had traveled from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
