Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno stated that he has no objection if comedian and television host Vice Ganda decides to run for president in the 2028 national elections. During an interview at the White Party Manila Pride Month celebration on June 27 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, Moreno said, “Well, technically, he’s qualified.”
Democracy and Public Choice
When asked whether a member of the LGBTQIA+ community like Vice Ganda deserves to be the next president of the Philippines, Moreno replied, “Well, it’s up to the people to decide. The good thing about us is democracy. You can choose anybody.” The 51-year-old former actor emphasized that he supports the LGBTQIA+ community, citing his personal acquaintance with many of its members and his belief in equality for all.
Equality in Manila
“In Manila, there are no gays, no lesbians, no poor, no middle class and no rich. In Manila, everyone is equal,” Moreno stated. His remarks underscore his administration's stance on inclusivity and equal treatment under the law.
Vice Ganda's Previous Stance
Despite Moreno's openness, Vice Ganda has previously stated that he has no plans to run in the national elections—though he left the door open by adding “that is, if he doesn’t change his mind.” The entertainer has not publicly responded to Moreno's recent comments.
