Bohol Implements Temporary Firearm Permit Suspension for ASEAN Finance Meetings
In a move to bolster security for a major international gathering, the Bohol Provincial Police Office has enforced a temporary suspension of the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) across the province. This measure is directly linked to the hosting of the ASEAN Finance and Central Bank Deputies' Meeting–Working Group (AFCDM-WG) and related meetings in Panglao, Bohol.
Enhanced Security Measures for High-Profile Event
The suspension took effect at 12:01 AM on February 9, 2026, and will remain in place until February 14, 2026. In an exclusive interview with Star FM Cebu, PMaj. Rey Olar, spokesperson for the Bohol Provincial Police Office, emphasized that this step is a critical part of heightened security protocols. The primary goal is to ensure the safety and orderliness of the event as the Philippines welcomes officials from across Southeast Asia.
Olar detailed that the suspension extends beyond just carrying firearms. It encompasses permits for gun clubs and manufacturers, the transport of firearms outside residences, as well as the purchase and transportation of fireworks. Additionally, the operation of firing ranges and licenses for the manufacture and sale of fireworks and pyrotechnic devices are included in this temporary ban.
ASEAN Finance Meetings Drive Regional Economic Agendas
Concurrently, the Department of Finance (DOF) and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) are co-chairing the five-day ASEAN Finance Track meetings. These gatherings will be attended by officials from all 11 ASEAN Member States, focusing on advancing key economic priorities under the Philippines' 2026 ASEAN Chairship.
The discussions aim to push forward three priority economic deliverables:
- Sustainable and resilient capital markets
- Financial health initiatives
- Cross-border payments enhancement
These efforts are designed to strengthen financial markets and improve regional payment connectivity, aligning with the broader G20 roadmap. The meetings represent a significant step in fostering economic cooperation and stability within the ASEAN region.
This temporary suspension underscores the Philippines' commitment to hosting secure and productive international forums, balancing public safety with diplomatic engagements.
