Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Fredderick Vida announced that former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co is no longer under the custody of the Czech Republic. In a press briefing early this morning, Secretary Vida confirmed that the fugitive former lawmaker has left the country.

According to Secretary Vida, Czech authorities informed the DOJ during a meeting regarding Co's situation. However, the only information provided was that Co had left the Czech Republic, with no further details shared. The DOJ is now relying on the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to issue a Red Notice against the former congressman.
Role of Interpol's Red Notice
A Red Notice would allow any Interpol member country to immediately detain Co and return him to Philippine custody. Secretary Vida expressed confidence that despite Co's departure from the Czech Republic, he can still be brought back to face trial in the Philippines. This remains the DOJ's objective, as it has been since before Co fled to the Czech Republic.
The DOJ continues to coordinate with international authorities to ensure Co's return and accountability under Philippine law.
