High-Value Drug Suspect Rearrested in Bohol After Plea Bargain Release

A high-value drug personality, previously released through a plea bargaining agreement, was rearrested in a coordinated buy-bust operation in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, on Tuesday evening, April 21, 2026. The suspect, identified as alias Wilson, 37, a resident of Purok 3, Barangay Booy, was on the target list of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 7.

Previous Arrest and Release

According to PDEA 7 Director Joel Plaza, Wilson had been previously arrested by PDEA Bohol in 2021 but was released in 2022 after entering into a plea bargaining agreement. This legal mechanism allowed him to avoid a longer sentence, highlighting ongoing challenges in the judicial system regarding drug cases.

Successful Operation and Seizures

The operation was conducted by the PDEA Bohol Provincial Office in coordination with the Tagbilaran City Police Station and the Bohol Maritime Police. Authorities seized two packs of suspected shabu weighing approximately 35 grams, with an estimated street value of P238,000. Additionally, buy-bust money and a cellular phone were confiscated from the suspect.

Intelligence and Case Buildup

Leia Alcantara, Information Officer of PDEA 7, revealed that the arrest followed a three-week case buildup after receiving information from an informant. This meticulous planning underscores the agency's efforts to strengthen evidence and ensure successful prosecutions in drug-related offenses.

The rearrest of Wilson raises concerns about the effectiveness of plea bargaining in deterring drug crimes and the need for stricter monitoring of released suspects. It also emphasizes the continuous collaboration between law enforcement agencies in combating illegal drug activities in the region.
