Vice President Sara Duterte has submitted a reply-affidavit in the perjury case against Ramil Madriaga at the Office of the City Prosecutor in Taguig. Her legal team maintains that the evidence is sufficient to prove that Madriaga lied under oath.
Legal Arguments Presented
According to Attorney Salvador Paolo Panelo Jr., Madriaga's counter-affidavit failed to address the evidence presented by the Vice President's camp, further weakening his allegations. Duterte's camp emphasized that their 340-page complaint-affidavit demonstrated the "impossibility" of Madriaga's claims, including his alleged involvement with political groups and confidential funds since 2018.
Refutation of Allegations
The legal team also refuted Madriaga's accusations regarding illegal funds from drug dealers and Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), stating that documents and testimonies contradict his assertions.
Upcoming Hearing
The next hearing is scheduled for May 18, where Madriaga is expected to submit a rejoinder affidavit. Meanwhile, Duterte's camp is considering filing additional perjury complaints against him, depending on the strategy related to the impending impeachment proceedings.
This development marks a significant step in the legal battle between the Vice President and her accuser, with both sides preparing for further arguments in the coming weeks.
