41 Barangays in Cebu City Achieve Drug-Cleared Status

Forty-one of Cebu City's 80 barangays were officially declared drug-cleared on Friday, June 26, 2026, during the city's observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (Idadait) 2026 at Plaza Sugbo, Cebu City Hall. The event was organized by the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap), led by executive director Greg Rodriguez, and carried the theme "World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses."

Recognized Barangays and Incentives

The recognized barangays include Santo Niño, Budlaan, Sapangdaku, Agsungot, Bonbon, Tabunan, Binaliw, Guba, Lusaran, San Jose, Mabini, Bacayan, Pamutan, Tagba-o, San Antonio, as well as the latest additions Cogon Ramos and Sta. Cruz. Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival announced during his speech that each drug-cleared barangay will receive a P100,000 cash incentive and an additional fuel allowance from the local government as a reward for their efforts.

Mayor's Call for Continued Efforts

Mayor Archival encouraged the remaining drug-affected barangays to strive for drug-cleared status. "We will assure you that we will continue to intensify our efforts so we can help people in our communities who are in difficult situations and put them on the right path," Archival said, according to a report by UP Cebu intern Gervie Paluga.

Certification Standards

Barangays were certified as drug-cleared after meeting the standards of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program. These standards include sustained anti-drug efforts, active Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils, and implementation of rehabilitation and preventive education programs. The event also featured the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency's mascots, Agents Pheds, which serve as friendly faces in public awareness campaigns.
