Balamban Leader Calls for Financial Compassion Following Typhoon Destruction
Balamban, Cebu Mayor Amos Edwin Cabahug has made an urgent appeal to microfinance and lending companies operating in the municipality, requesting they provide affected residents with temporary relief from loan payments in the aftermath of Typhoon Tino.
The mayor issued his heartfelt plea through an official statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, emphasizing the severe challenges facing many Balamban residents as they struggle to recover from the typhoon's devastating impact.
Widespread Damage and Economic Hardship
In his social media post, Mayor Cabahug detailed the multiple crises confronting the community, including significant livelihood losses, damaged homes, and disrupted income sources that have left many families financially vulnerable.
"In behalf of the people of Balamban, I am appealing for your kind consideration to grant a grace period or temporary deferment of loan payments for your clients who have been affected by Bagyong Tino," the mayor stated in his public message.
Corporate Social Responsibility in Times of Crisis
Cabahug specifically called on financial institutions to demonstrate compassion and exercise their corporate social responsibility by offering flexibility and support to borrowers during this difficult recovery period.
The mayor emphasized that even modest accommodations from lending organizations could make a substantial difference in helping affected residents regain their financial footing and rebuild their lives.
"Even small acts of compassion can greatly help our fellow Balambanganons rebuild their lives," Cabahug added. "Together, let us help our community recover and rise again."
The appeal comes as Balamban continues to assess the full extent of damage caused by Typhoon Tino, with many residents facing the dual challenge of repairing physical property while managing existing financial obligations.
