The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Central Visayas has laid out strict safety protocols for the upcoming Sinulog 2026 seaborne procession in Cebu, designating specific areas for different vessel types to ensure a secure and orderly event.
Stationary Motorbancas at NUSTAR
In an advisory posted on the PCG Central Cebu Facebook page on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the maritime authority mandated that all registered vessels under the Yellow Category, which are motorbancas, must remain stationary at the NUSTAR area throughout the entire procession. The Coast Guard explained this measure is critical as the galleon will turn in front of this area to prevent any potential accidents.
Pre-Positioning for Large Vessels
Meanwhile, larger boats classified under the Blue Category received different instructions. These vessels are required to pre-position near the First Cebu-Mactan Bridge. Under the close supervision of the PCG, they will be allowed to follow the approved seaborne route from the bridge to Pier 2.
Call for Cooperation and Compliance
The PCG has issued a firm reminder to all boat owners and operators to strictly comply with all directives and safety measures. The success of the seaborne procession, scheduled for the vísperas day of the Fiesta Señor celebration on Saturday, January 17, 2026, hinges on the full cooperation of every participant. The Coast Guard stressed that this collective effort is essential for the peaceful and successful conduct of Sinulog 2026.
