In a decisive move to prevent major traffic congestion, the Cebu City Government has announced the temporary relocation of the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) for the upcoming Sinulog Grand Parade in 2026.
Temporary Terminal Shift to South Road Properties
The city's advisory, issued on January 5, 2026, mandates that the CSBT operations will be moved from its usual location on N. Bacalso Avenue to a temporary site at El Pardo, along Industrial Road in the South Road Properties (SRP). This critical change is scheduled to take effect in the early hours of January 18, 2026, starting at 3:00 AM.
The terminal will remain at the SRP location until all Sinulog-related activities have concluded. This strategic relocation is a core part of the city's plan to streamline vehicle flow in the downtown area during the massive festival.
Ensuring Safety and Smooth Traffic Flow
The primary goals of this temporary move are twofold. First, it aims to ensure ample space and clear routes for government officials, emergency response units, and authorized vehicles crucial to the parade's operations. Second, it seeks to significantly reduce traffic buildup in the city center, enhancing the safety and experience for all attendees.
Councilor Dave Tumulak, a member of the Sinulog Foundation Inc.'s executive committee, emphasized that this is a unified effort. The measure is designed to guarantee public safety, orderly traffic, and the effective movement of people during Cebu City's largest annual celebration.
Coordination and Public Advisory
Since the CSBT is owned and managed by the Cebu Provincial Government under Governor Pamela Baricuatro, the Cebu City Government has urged the provincial administration to approve this temporary operational shift.
Authorities are strongly advising commuters and transport operators to plan their journeys ahead of time. Travelers should monitor official city advisories for the latest updates on bus routes and the terminal's status throughout the Sinulog period.
The 2026 Sinulog Grand Parade will once again be held at its traditional venue, the Cebu City Sports Center, following the event's customary parade route.
