Davao City Acting Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte issued a powerful warning to drug dealers operating within the city, with special focus on those targeting minors and young people during the opening ceremony of Pasko Fiesta 2025.
Strong Message Against Drug Pushers
The mayor's stern address took place on Thursday afternoon, November 27, at Rizal Park, San Pedro Square in Davao City. During his speech, Duterte revealed that he has received numerous reports about illegal drug activities that have been destroying families and negatively impacting young lives throughout the community.
Children are among the most vulnerable victims of this drug trade, according to the mayor's statements. Some minors have reportedly been forced into drug use or exploited within the illegal substance trade, creating urgent concern for city officials.
Direct Warning to Perpetrators
In his native language, Mayor Duterte delivered a clear message to drug pushers: "Karon medyo naa koy nadunggan kabahin sa mga pusher, sa mga kinabuhi nga inyong ginaguba, kanang mga bata nga inyong ginapakaon og shabu. Timani-i ninyo, pabayron ta mo pag-abot sa panahon."
This translates to a firm warning that those destroying lives, particularly children being fed shabu, will eventually face consequences for their actions. The mayor emphasized that accountability will catch up with individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, even if they currently feel secure.
City Government's Proactive Measures
Duterte explained that the city government has already started documenting names of people suspected of drug involvement. This systematic approach aims to reduce the harm affecting families and protect the mental well-being of Davao City's youth, who often suffer the most from drug proliferation.
The mayor's statements come as Davao City authorities intensify efforts to combat illegal drug activities. Local government units, barangay officials, and law enforcement agencies are coordinating closely to track down pushers and prevent further spread of drugs, especially among younger populations.
Public response to Mayor Baste's strong stance has been largely supportive, with many residents and civic groups expressing approval for his commitment to protecting children from the influence of illegal substances.
