Davao Police Intensify Patrols with Oplan Tuyok to Curb Crime
Davao Police Launch 24/7 Oplan Tuyok Patrol Strategy

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has ramped up its efforts to keep the city safe with the launch of a new, intensive patrol strategy called Oplan Tuyok. Announced on January 16, 2026, this initiative marks a significant shift towards proactive, preventive policing designed to make officers a constant and visible presence in the community.

What is Oplan Tuyok?

Spearheaded by the DCPO Mobile Patrol Unit, the operation's name comes from the Cebuano word tuyok, which means to roam or encircle. This perfectly describes its core mission: to have law enforcers continuously and strategically moving across Davao City. The focus is on saturating key areas with police visibility to directly discourage criminal activity before it happens.

Col. Mannan Caracas Muarip, the acting city director of the DCPO, explained that Oplan Tuyok strengthens the move from reactive to preventive policing. The objective is to make police service more accessible and reassuring to the public. Law enforcement is not just for emergencies; officers are now actively working to prevent incidents from occurring in the first place.

How the 24/7 Patrol Strategy Works

Under this new program, police units are deployed around the clock to conduct mobile patrols. The strategy involves:

  • 24/7 mobile patrols across the city.
  • Concentrated deployment in identified high-risk areas, crime-prone zones, and residential communities.
  • Rapid, real-time response protocols to address threats immediately.

This approach allows officers to quickly investigate suspicious activities, respond to community reports, and provide immediate assistance. The sustained police presence also fosters stronger coordination with barangay officials, private security, and community members, creating a shared responsibility for peace and order.

A Symbol of Vigilance and Deterrence

The DCPO stated that Oplan Tuyok stands as a symbol of vigilance, day or night, rain or shine. It represents policing that moves with purpose, aiming to deny criminals the opportunity to operate while safeguarding the lives and property of Davaoeños. Residents are encouraged to report any concerns promptly, with the confidence that a mobile patrol unit is always within reach.

This program directly supports the DCPO's ongoing campaign against the city's eight focus crimes, which include:

  • Murder, Homicide, & Physical Injury
  • Rape
  • Robbery & Theft
  • Carnapping of Motorcycles and Motor Vehicles

Police officials are confident that the sustained patrol saturation under Oplan Tuyok will lead to a further reduction in incidents across these critical crime categories, making Davao City an even safer place to live and work.
