In a powerful display of resilience and faith, Lapu-Lapu City officials have confirmed that the 290th Patronal Fiesta honoring Nuestra Señora de Regla will proceed as scheduled, despite the recent natural disasters that have affected the Cebu region.
Celebrating Faith Amid Challenges
Mayor Ma. Cynthia "Cindi" Chan announced on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, that all fiesta activities would continue as planned, emphasizing the celebration's importance as a source of hope and encouragement for the community. The decision comes despite the September 30 earthquake and two November typhoons that have impacted Cebu.
"We will continue our fiesta activities despite our calamities," Mayor Chan stated during her interview. "I know our brothers and sisters in Cebu are suffering, but we hope to give them encouragement."
The mayor also emphasized that while celebrating their local traditions, the city remains committed to supporting neighboring communities affected by the recent disasters. "We are not stopping our help to our neighboring cities. I am in constant communication with Mayor Jonkie (Ouano) and Mayor Nestor (Archival) regarding what additional help I can provide them," she added.
Religious Activities Schedule
The fiesta celebrations feature an extensive schedule of religious events beginning Wednesday, November 12, with a Holy Mass at San Roque Parish in Cordova. The day's activities will include a motorcade, seaborne procession, and the first Novena Mass at the Virgen de la Regla National Shrine.
Key events in the coming weeks include:
- Solemn procession on November 20 at 4 p.m.
- Pontifical Mass on November 21 at 10 a.m. presided over by Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy, D.D.
- Hubo Mass on November 29 to conclude the celebrations
