Man arrested for stealing beer, soy milk in Naga store

Police in Naga City, Cebu, have apprehended a man following a brazen early morning theft at a local 24-hour convenience store. The incident, which involved the consumption and theft of several items, occurred on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Early Morning Theft at Langtad Convenience Store

The events unfolded around 5:00 in the morning at a 24/7 store located in Barangay Langtad, Naga City. Store employees caught a male customer in the act of leaving the premises without paying for goods he had taken and consumed inside.

According to the investigation by the Naga City Police Station, the suspect, identified as Juan De Guzman, an adult resident of Toledo City, Cebu, had taken a flavored beer and a Vitamilk soy milk drink. He also procured a pack of Wet Wipes, which he used to wipe his face and body while inside the store.

Consumption Before Attempted Exit

Authorities reported that De Guzman consumed the Vitamilk and the flavored beer while still inside the store. As he was about to finish the flavored beer, he then attempted to exit the establishment, carrying the empty or near-empty items without making any effort to settle his bill.

Alert store personnel immediately intervened, holding the suspect on the premises. They subsequently contacted officers from the Naga City Police Station to take the individual into custody.

"No Money to Pay": Suspect's Admission to Police

When questioned by authorities about his actions, Juan De Guzman confessed that he did not have any money to pay for the items. This admission formed a key part of the initial police report.

As a result of the incident, the Naga City Police are preparing a formal case against the suspect. The charge of theft (pagpangawat) is being filed in relation to the stolen flavored beer, soy milk, and wet wipes. The suspect remains in police holding as procedures continue.

This case highlights the vigilance of local retail workers and the prompt response of the Naga City Police in addressing petty crime. Businesses operating 24 hours in the area are reminded to maintain strict security protocols, especially during the early morning hours.
