Stolen Bacolor Church Items Recovered, No Charges for Minor

Police authorities in Bacolor, Pampanga have successfully recovered a collection of sacred garments and accessories that were stolen from the town's historic San Guillermo Church. The recovery brings relief to the local parish after a series of thefts targeting revered religious images.

Sacred Vestments Recovered in Police Operation

The successful retrieval operation was confirmed by Bacolor Mayor Diman Datu on Thursday. The stolen items belonged to the religious images of Saint Martha and Señor Jesus Nazareno, which hold significant devotion within the church. Leading the police effort was Major Jessie James Domingo, the Chief of Police for Bacolor.

According to the police report, the recovered items included intricate vestments, wigs, and other essential religious iconographies used to adorn the saints' images. The investigation pointed to a 12-year-old child as the alleged perpetrator. The child, who reportedly moved to Bacolor only in November 2025, is suspected of taking the items on three separate occasions: December 12, December 31, and January 4, 2025.

Compassion Over Prosecution: Parish Declines to File Charges

In a notable decision highlighting compassion and pastoral care, the San Guillermo Parish has announced it will not be filing criminal charges against the minor involved. Initial investigations by authorities suggested that the child needs appropriate intervention and psychosocial support rather than punitive legal action.

This approach underscores the community's focus on rehabilitation and understanding the root causes behind the incidents. The parish's stance has been widely noted as an example of mercy within the framework of justice.

Community Response and Path Forward

The case has drawn attention to the need for community support systems for young individuals. While the recovery of the stolen religious items restores a sense of spiritual and cultural security, the broader conversation has shifted toward the welfare of the child.

The Bacolor police's swift action in recovering the precious items has been commended. Meanwhile, the parish's decision prioritizes a restorative outcome, aiming to address the underlying needs of the minor while safeguarding the sanctity of its religious artifacts.
