Stranded Vessel Successfully Removed from Lapu-Lapu Coastline

A significant maritime incident was resolved in Lapu-Lapu City this week after a commercial vessel ran aground near a local community. The landing craft tank identified as the Golden Star 7 became stranded in the waters of Sitio Sidlakan, Caubian Island, on Monday, November 10, 2025, prompting immediate action from local authorities.

Swift Action by City Government

Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” Chan addressed the situation during a press briefing on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. She confirmed that the Lapu-Lapu City Government had authorized the emergency removal of the ship following proper coordination with the vessel's representatives. This executive decision was made to mitigate any further risk to the nearby community and prevent additional environmental damage.

According to the mayor, the primary cause of the vessel's instability was the theft of its anchor. This left the massive ship vulnerable to shifting with the tides, creating a potential hazard for the area's seawall infrastructure.

Early Morning Extraction Operation

The removal operation was successfully completed in the early hours of Tuesday. Caubian Barangay Councilor Kathy Meyers provided the precise timeline, confirming that the Golden Star 7 was pulled out at around 12:55 a.m. This quick resolution helped to alleviate the immediate danger posed by the stranded vessel.

In a positive development for the affected community, Mayor Chan announced that the ship's owner has taken full responsibility for the incident. The owner has formally committed to covering any and all damages caused by the vessel and has signed a binding agreement with the City Legal Office to ensure accountability.
