Zamboanga City Provides P10K + Rice to 20 Families Displaced by Fires
Zamboanga Gives Aid to Families Hit by Recent Fires

The local government of Zamboanga City has taken swift action to support residents who lost their homes in a series of recent fires. On Friday afternoon, December 5, 2025, the city distributed immediate financial aid and essential goods to twenty affected families.

Immediate Relief for Fire Victims

Socorro Rojas, the chief of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), led the distribution at the mayor's office. Each beneficiary family received a direct cash aid of P10,000 along with one sack of rice from the city's resources. In a personal show of support, Mayor Khymer Olaso contributed an additional P2,000 in cash to each household, bringing their total immediate financial assistance to P12,000.

Breakdown of Affected Families

The recipients came from four different barangays hit by fires on two consecutive days. The breakdown of the aid distribution is as follows:

  • Two families from Pasonanca village.
  • Five families from Sangali village.

These seven families were impacted by fire incidents that occurred on December 2, 2025.

  • Eight families from San Jose Gusu village.
  • Five families from Ayala village.

These thirteen families were victims of fires that broke out on December 3, 2025.

Support for Rebuilding Homes

Beyond the immediate cash and food aid, Mayor Olaso announced further assistance to help the displaced families rebuild their lives. He personally encouraged them to visit the City General Services Office (CGSO) on Monday, December 8.

There, the families can obtain available second-hand construction materials, such as wood and roofing supplies, to start reconstructing their houses. "We really want to help you start rebuilding your homes by whatever means," Mayor Olaso assured the beneficiaries, emphasizing the city's commitment to their recovery.

This coordinated effort by the Zamboanga City Government highlights a multi-faceted approach to disaster response, providing both immediate financial relief and the practical means for long-term recovery for its affected constituents.
