549 Arrested in Central Visayas Anti-Crime Operations

In a sweeping series of law enforcement actions, authorities in Central Visayas have made significant strides against criminal activities, resulting in the arrest of 549 individuals and the seizure of substantial illegal contraband during the final week of February. The coordinated efforts, led by the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7), focused on a multi-pronged approach to combat illegal drugs, apprehend wanted persons, confiscate loose firearms, and crack down on illegal gambling operations.

Major Drug Busts and Arrests

According to official data released by PRO 7, the anti-drug campaign yielded substantial results. Police confiscated a total of 412.57 grams of shabu, with an estimated street value of P2.8 million, alongside 22.15 grams of dried marijuana. These seizures led to the arrest of 240 suspects involved in drug-related offenses, highlighting the region's intensified focus on curbing narcotics trafficking and abuse.

Wanted Persons and Firearms Campaign

In parallel operations, law enforcement strengthened their pursuit of wanted individuals, resulting in the arrest of 169 persons. Among those apprehended, 39 were classified as most wanted, indicating a targeted effort to bring high-priority fugitives to justice. Additionally, the campaign against loose firearms proved highly effective, with authorities seizing 59 firearms of various calibers, one grenade, and 122 rounds of ammunition. This operation led to the arrest of 29 individuals found in possession of these illegal weapons.

Oplan Katok Initiative

PRO 7 also intensified its Oplan Katok operations, a program designed to encourage licensed gun holders with expired permits to temporarily surrender their firearms pending renewal. As a result, 15 firearms were voluntarily turned over to authorities, demonstrating a collaborative approach to firearm regulation and public safety.

Crackdown on Illegal Gambling

Following directives from Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, chief of PRO 7, police targeted illegal gambling activities across the region. This effort resulted in the arrest of 72 gamblers and the confiscation of P9,244 in gambling money, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the anti-criminality operations.

Official Statements and Future Goals

In a statement, Brigadier General Maranan emphasized the dedication of PRO 7 personnel, stating, "These results reflect the dedication of our personnel in keeping communities safe. The seizure of illegal drugs and firearms, along with the arrests of criminals, demonstrates our proactive, intelligence-driven approach. PRO 7 will continue to intensify operations and work closely with the public to ensure a safer Region 7." He further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities promptly.

The overarching goal, as outlined by Maranan, is to maintain peace and order in every locality across Central Visayas, reinforcing the commitment to ongoing law enforcement efforts and community cooperation.
