Bohol Police Chief Relieved Amid Investigation into Viral Social Media Video
In a significant development, Lt. Col. John Kareen Escober, the chief of the Tagbilaran City Police Station, has been officially relieved from his duties effective March 16, 2026. This action follows an ongoing investigation by the Bohol Police Provincial Office into a viral social media video that surfaced last week, depicting the alleged abduction of a man by unidentified male individuals.
Mayor's Directive Ensures Transparency
Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap announced the decision on her Facebook page, emphasizing the need for a fair and transparent investigation. Mayor Yap stated that she directed Col. Patricio Degay Jr., the provincial director of the Bohol police, to relieve Escober along with several of his subordinates. This move aims to uphold integrity and public trust during the probe.
New Officer-in-Charge Appointed
Stepping in as the officer-in-charge is Police Lieutenant Colonel Judy Mar Bonilla, the current Deputy Provincial Director for Administration at the Bohol Police Provincial Office.
