The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) has clarified that the replacement of the chief of the Tagbilaran City Police Station is not a sign of guilt but rather a procedural measure within an ongoing investigation. This move is linked to a viral social media video from March 11, 2026, showing a man being forced into a white vehicle outside the Dao Terminal.
Leadership Shift to Ensure Transparency
On March 16, 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel John Kareen Escober was officially relieved from his duties. Police Lieutenant Colonel Judy Mar Bonilla, the Deputy Provincial Director for Administration at BPPO, has assumed the role as Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Police Colonel Patricio Degay Jr., Provincial Director of the Bohol PNP, stated that this action was taken to eliminate any perception of influence and ensure the investigation proceeds with full independence and transparency.
"By shifting leadership during the probe, we remove any perception of influence, allowing internal investigators to work with full independence and transparency," Degay emphasized.
Mayor's Statement and Investigation Status
Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap previously announced that Escober's removal was a decision by higher authorities at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7, not her personal choice. Despite the concerns raised by the viral video, police have revealed that, as of now, no formal complaint has been received from the family of the man allegedly abducted by three individuals.
The Bohol PNP has pledged to maintain transparency throughout the investigation to provide clarity to the public and uphold trust in the police force.
