Despite a pending petition before the Supreme Court, the Commission on Elections will continue to prepare for the September 14, 2026 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections. Comelec Chairman George Garcia gave this assurance, stating that preparations will continue as long as the Supreme Court has not issued a temporary restraining order.
No TRO from Supreme Court
"Currently, we don't have a TRO from the Supreme Court. There is no law postponing the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections," Garcia said in an interview. "Thus, we strongly believe that the September 14 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections will push through."
Calendar of Activities Being Followed
As proof of their commitment, Garcia emphasized that the Comelec is faithfully adhering to its own Calendar of Activities for the BPE. "We are following our Calendar of Activities to prove to the people that if it were only up to the Comelec, we have no doubt about the continuation of the elections," he added.
Petition Questioning Constitutionality
Earlier, Marawi City residents Abu Mujahid Mamutuk and Sultan Saad Amate filed a petition questioning the constitutionality of Bangsamoro Autonomy Act Numbers 86 and 88. These laws are essential for the holding of the BPE. The Supreme Court has yet to act on the petition.
