The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has assured its readiness for the upcoming Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections and the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE) elections. COMELEC Chairman George Garcia stated that their command conference with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement groups was productive in ensuring security for both elections.
Preparations Underway
Garcia emphasized that COMELEC is sufficiently prepared, noting that the filing of candidacies for the BARMM election will begin next month. The commission is coordinating closely with security forces to guarantee a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
Funding Challenges
However, the official admitted that a major challenge is the lack of funds. COMELEC must practice austerity due to the ongoing energy crisis affecting the country. Despite this, Garcia assured that the elections will push through as scheduled.
The BARMM parliamentary election is a significant event in the region's political landscape, while the BSKE elections are crucial for local governance. COMELEC continues to work with relevant agencies to address logistical and security concerns.
