Dela Rosa Mulls Forfeiting Salary Amid Senate Absence

Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa is considering the possibility of giving up or not accepting his salaries and allowances amid his continued absence from the Senate. This was confirmed by Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito during an interview with reporters on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Ejercito Confirms Deliberations

"I think it's already being considered. They're just waiting for the final decision. They are already considering it (to decline salaries and allowances). So, that's the good news," Ejercito said.

"We don't know how to get in touch with him. However, there are ongoing discussions between his camp and the committee. Hopefully, there will be a positive development by next week," he added.

Previous Appeal to Dela Rosa

Last week, Ejercito appealed to Dela Rosa to stop accepting his salary and benefits while he remains absent from the Senate. The call came amid growing concerns over the senator's failure to attend sessions and fulfill his legislative duties.

Ethics Complaint Filed

An ethics complaint was filed against Dela Rosa by the anti-corruption group "Wag Kang KuCorrupt." The organization accused the senator of dereliction of duty due to his prolonged absence from Senate sessions and his failure to perform his official functions as a lawmaker. The complaint highlights the need for accountability among public officials, especially those elected to serve the people.

Dela Rosa has yet to issue a public statement regarding the matter. The Senate ethics committee is expected to deliberate on the complaint and the senator's potential decision to forfeit his compensation in the coming weeks.
