DSWD Distributes 1.8M Food Packs to Typhoon-Hit LGUs Nationwide
DSWD Sends 1.8M Food Packs for Typhoon Relief

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has launched a massive relief operation across the Philippines, distributing essential supplies to communities devastated by recent typhoons.

Nationwide Relief Distribution Reaches 1.8 Million Families

The DSWD confirmed on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, that it has distributed 1,855,134 family food packs to local government units affected by Typhoons Uwan (internationally known as Fung-wong) and Tino (Kalmaegi). Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the Disaster Response Management Group emphasized that this continuous aid delivery follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to strengthen disaster response capabilities.

"In line with the directives of our President and as part of our strengthened disaster response under the Buong Bansa Handa program, the DSWD is exerting all efforts to ensure the prompt and continuous flow of assistance to areas hit by Uwan and Tino," Dumlao stated during the announcement.

Comprehensive Aid Strategy Extends Beyond Food Packs

The relief effort extends far beyond standard food assistance. DSWD field offices have provided 24,455 boxes of ready-to-eat food specifically to the hardest-hit provinces. The geographic scope of this operation is extensive, covering multiple regions across the archipelago:

  • Regions 1 (Ilocos) and 2 (Cagayan Valley)
  • Regions 3 (Central Luzon) and NCR (National Capital Region)
  • Regions 4A (Calabarzon) and 4B (Mimaropa)
  • Regions 5 (Bicol) through 13 (Caraga)
  • Cordillera Administrative Region and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region

To address "food pack-fatigue" among displaced families in evacuation centers, the department has deployed mobile kitchens that serve hot, nutritious meals. This innovative approach ensures that affected individuals receive varied and balanced nutrition during their displacement.

Holistic Recovery Approach Includes Financial Support

The DSWD has initiated early recovery assistance that goes beyond immediate relief. The department has begun releasing Emergency Cash Transfers alongside non-food items and psychosocial services. This comprehensive strategy aims to support the holistic recovery of families impacted by the twin typhoons.

"We want families to feel protected and supported to help them get back on their feet," Dumlao explained. "As Secretary Rex Gatchalian always says—we are focused on the recovery of our countrymen while also continuing the needed relief efforts."

The department maintains close coordination with local governments to reinforce preventive measures and ensure sufficient supplies are available for any incoming weather disturbances. Dumlao also acknowledged the tireless efforts of employees and volunteers working at the Luzon Disaster Resource Center in Pasay City and the Visayas Disaster Resource Center in Mandaue City, Cebu, where relief goods are being repacked around the clock.
